Herniated Disc Microdiscectomy

herniated disc microdiscectomy
in India , how much it would cost a foreigner to do Microdiscectomy surgery to cure herniated lumbar disk ?

i heard it is cheap in india and good

Generally in any respectable hospital the surgery is 30%, medications 15% and ward charges pre and post surgery is 45%. The variable element is the ward expenses. It can be 60% also.
I believe the total expenses would vary between 150000 to 250000 in the top layer hospitals.

I WANT TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHOSE DOG HAD HEMILAMINECTOMY AND THEN DIED WITH COMPLICATIONS OF MYELOMALACIA?

I WANT TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHOSE DOG HAD A HEMILAMINECTOMY FOR HERNIATED DISC AND THE DOG SUFFERED MYELOMALACIA AND WAS EUTHANIZED.

Hi,
My dachshund had a T-13 injury happen yesterday. I was fortunate, he didn’t require surgery (yet). But, the best info I have found on Myelomalacia was on a website called www.dodgerslist.com. Started by dachsund owners, it has a wealth of info on treatments, diseased discs, those animals who have survived and also those who have died from it, etc. Even if your dog was not a dachshund, it is meant for owners of ANY breed to get the info they need about this horrible condition. The worst is that it is always fatal. There are many owners listed on this site who lost their dogs to this disease. My sympathies on your loss, I thought I would be facing the same today. Of all the doxies I have had (I do rescue), this is the first to have this type of injury in my home.
Again, my condolences, I can only imagine your pain. My heart was in my throat when I read your question.

Herniated Disc Neck Surgery

herniated disc neck surgery
How long does it take to recover from a herniate disk surgery on the neck?

I had the surgery done about three and a half months ago, and the doctor said the only physical therapy I needed was to walk a lot, to prevent blood clots on the legs. I am still experiencing the pains. I have gone back to the gym, but slowly after waiting at least six weeks following the surgery. Thank you for your time.

If you are talking about anterior cervical disc fusion, then yes, commonly PT is not needed. Although, I have seen a few people for a few weeks of gentle stretching and conditioning.

Most of the healing takes place within the first 3 months…but it’s common to have some aches and pains over the course of a year…however, it should be decreasing in frequency and intensity…especially arm symptoms

Herniated Disc Cervical Spine Surgery

herniated disc cervical spine surgery
Nerve test for cervical herniated discs…?

So my MRI report cam back a few weeks ago. I have 2 cervical herniated discs, bone spurs, and degeneration in my discs. In addition to…strained neck, rhomboid (shoulder blade area) and lumbar muscles (lower back).

I have been going to physical therapy and I was told yesterday that if I am not feeling better by January, he wants to do a Electromyography . He mentioned needles being put along my arm and this just freaks me out! Has anybody had this done? What was it like??

Next step after that would be a cortisone shot in my spine (not sure about this, since it doesn’t fix the problem, it only numbs the pain temporarily), followed by surgery.

It’s generally not a comfortable test…but generally not excruciating either.

I wouldn’t necessarily write off the cortisone injections as a temporary fix…sometimes the injections combined with the physical therapy allows one to complete the corrective exercises that are sometimes not possible with PT alone. I’ve had many patients fail to respond to PT, but responded much better after the injections.

Good luck.

Herniated Disc Weakness

herniated disc weakness
If you complain about Weakness in the right leg and foot causes by Herniated Disc, will the Neurologist?

Perform the EMG test on 1 leg or Both?
I will be going for the EMG test in June

The only true way to ensure the reading of the test is accurate is by doing both legs. This will tell if there is any pressure or impedance on the nerve within either leg. Have you had MRI scans done? If not ask for that and see if it can be done in a standing position.

Herniated Disc Surgery Options

herniated disc surgery options
I am 18 and have a herniated disc at L4-L5. Should I get surgery?

I have tried everything– from physical therapy to epidural shots and i still suffer from excruating pain. I have had this problem for almost two years and it has come down to the option of surgery. I don’t want to do it because I feel to young to have a microdiscectomy. I have talked to numerous doctors/surgeons but I keep getting the same advice. What should I do?

If it’s a full blown herniation, and you’ve given it two years, it’s not likely to heal by itself. However, the people who tend to do best with surgery are those who:

A. Have more leg pain than back pain (in fact, they often have no back pain at all)
B. Their pain goes away or signficiantly lessens upon sitting or lying but comes back the instant they stand
C. L5/S-1 problems do better than L4/L5 problems
D. The surgery is done within the first 10 weeks.

If A & B still describe you, I think you’d still benefit from surgery. A microdiscectomy is a pretty easy recovery. Leg pain usually subsides instantly or within a few days after the surgery. Minimal physical therapy (if at all) is required, people are usually back to work in a couple weeks to four weeks (depending on what they do).

If this doesn’t describe you, I’d also consider the following:
1. What did your therapy consist of? If it included nothing but modalities or “core stabilization”, I’d consider seeing a physical therapist who is certified in mechanical diagnosis and therapy. www.mckenziemdt.org It’s a different way of problem solving that is very evidence based. However, most physical therapists do not understand this. Seeing someone who is certified in the method can assure you that you should get a very honest prognosis. If they can’t help you, it will be evident very quickly.
2. Some form of traction or decompression therapy. I would only do this if your leg pain is not severe and doesn’t always go past the knee. If you are like A & B above, I would NOT do this therapy.

Good luck

Herniated Disc Fusion Surgery

herniated disc fusion surgery
I need a disc fusion?

I had back surgery 2yrs. ago for a herniated disc. It was massive. The doctor took so much of my disc out that now the disc is being crushed. He said that I have to have a fusion now. I was wondering if anyone could let me know details about surgery. Disc (L5,S1).Will it have any effect of mobility that kind of thing. Now he informs me he should have done the fusion in the first place. Thank you for your help.

L5-S fusion should not affect your mobility that much. But it will to some extent. Remember, back surgery is hit and miss. You may get better or you may not. But sounds like you have no choice.

Herniated Disc Treatment Surgery

herniated disc treatment surgery
I just got diagnosed with a herniated disc in my back.?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me some other treatment options other than surgery. I think I’m going to buy an inversion table and see if that will help. Can an Inversion table cure a herniated disc.

Treatment options would depend solely on how much of your disc has become herniated. Some can take the pain but, truthfully, since it is herniated, I would suggest surgery. If it was just a bulging disc, then you could try and deal with it.

I hope you can come to a good decision about this. I know that many have had surgery and it has been successful. Get another opinion.
