Exercises Herniated Disc L5 S1

Hi ,,,i am 23 yrs old,,and have a herniated disc at l4/l5 and l5/s1 since last 2 yrs?

Hi ,,,i am 23 yrs old,,and have a herniated disc at l4/l5 and l5/s1 since last 2 yrs.?
pain was alright but i got a weird feeling that my right leg is longer than the other which makes my body structure bit tilted,,,is it becoz of my herniated disc…any suggestions for any exercise or something…

I’ve herniated L5/S1. The pain in your leg is the result of sciatica. The ruptured disc presses against a nerve that controls some of the feeling in your leg. I have found that core strengthening exercises and stretching greatly helped my sciatica. Abdominal crunches and hamstring stretches helped alot. It’s important to be consistent though. Building these core muscles help to stabilize your back and torso which prevents the discs from further rupturing.

Herniated Disc

herniated disc
What is the best type of doctor to see if I know I have a herniated disc?

I lived in China where I got an MRI and found out I have a herniated disc. Does anyone know the best doctor to go see for that? I’ve heard go to a neurosurgeon and not an orthopedic surgeon. Also…anyone heard of going to a chiropractor? I have had the pain for over a year so I think I’m in the 10% that don’t get better after 6 months or less. Thanks!

Your physician will refer you to a doctor in your area.

Herniated Disc Arm Pain

herniated disc arm pain
Could this be a herniated disc?

I think i may have a herniated disc it fills like maybe the c5-c7 vertebrae area (the spasms and pain are coming from that area).
if it is a herniated disc is it a serious injury or will it heal on its own?
my symptoms:
its effecting the left side of my body only, if i move or try to use my left arm to much it starts to hurt that part of my neck/back and that arm is slightly numb and has a tingling sensation also when i move around to much that part of my neck start to cramp/spasm really bad. when it starts to cramp i get a pain and the numb tingling that travels up the left side of my neck and head and into my left eye when that happens its hard for me to keep focus in that eye and i get a little disoriented.

does this sound like anything to anyone?
*feels not fills

I would think that you have some type of disc damage that can be identified with an MRI. You need to have an MRI so the specialist can see what kind of damage you have. This problem will not go away on its own. You may require physical therapy and medication, or heaven forbid, surgery so that the numbness you are feeling goes away. In the meantime, if you want to treat yourself with herbs, a good one that I take for leg and back pain is White Willow Bark, which is equivalent to aspirin but does not have the same side effects.

Herniated Disc Home Treatment

Treatment for herniated ro bulging disk?

My husband has had a bulging disk for a few years now. About a year ago he was in the hospital from it because of intense pain. He was given pain meds which helped and in tie it got better. Now he is having intense pain again. He is having trouble breathing and hurts so bad it is making him throw up. a week ago his doctor gave him pain meds, anti-inflamatory drugs and prescribed PT for a few weeks. They also gave him lidocane patches to put on his back to numb it at night so he could sleep. The anti-inflamatories, pain meds and patches are not working. PT was supposed to start this week, but he is unable to do it b/c the pain is so bad. Doctors don’t want to do surgery because the disc is in his upper spine and they said they would have to go through his lungs which I don’t understand. Any ideas what else they might be able to do? He is young (29) and we have 2 small children at home and he currently can’t spend much time with them b/c he is in such bad pain.

Your husband has a case of pinched muscles in his back that are causing this pain for him and once they are released he should be rid of most of, if not all the pain he is in. I have found out myself that the medical field is ill equipped in such an elementary thing as a pinched muscle, I spent over 25 years in pain myself until I found how to release those muscles. When pinched in the chest area the pains will feel like a truck on his chest because as the muscles tighten up they won’t allow him to take a breath anymore and when he does he can get shooting pains as the ribs do expand putting more pressure on the pinched area. When pinched in the lower back they can put pressure on the nerves going to the stomach which is going to upset it. Here is how he can release the muscles in his back and get rid of the pains:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.

Herniated Disc L5 S1

herniated disc l5 s1
if you have a herniated disc pressing against a nerve in L5 S1, can a chiropractor actually fix the problem?

In looking at your previous Questions:

1. I’m assuming you were diagnosed (via x-rays or MIR) with this herniated disc.

2. I’m assuming you did not have the surgery you were discussing 3 months ago.

3. The tingling and pain in your shoulder and arm would not result from a lumbar 5 nerve compression. A compressed thoracic or cervical nerve would cause these symptoms. This is a chart of dermatomes, meaning it shows which spinal nerves innervate which areas of skin http://www.sci-recovery.org/images/dermatomes.jpg.

4. At this point I would suggest a referral to a Physical Therapist. I am completely in favor of chiropractors (I have used them occasionally for over 25 years), but a Physical Therapist can show you exercises that can help you align your back properly.

A partly-herniated (and sometimes a herniated) disc maybe capable of healing itself with the appropriate posture and exercise. Two years ago I injured my Lumbar 4 and 5 discs, partly-herniating them. My insurance would not pay for an MRI or for physical therapy, so I found a Home Exercise Program for partly-herniated discs and after 3 months I had no further pain.

If you have a lumbar 5 problem, you probably also have sciatic pain http://www.gonstead.co.uk/Back-Pain/sciatica/images/spinal-nerve-distribution-sciatica_w600.gif. Exercises intended for sciatica resulting from a herniated disc are what I chose, and these sites may help http://www.spine-health.com/wellness/exercise/exercise-sciatica-a-herniated-disc, http://www.spine-health.com/wellness/exercise/overview-sciatica-exercises.

Again, a chiropractor may be able to help you, but I would not recommend being “adjusted” in the usual chiropractic way. Many chiropractors can also provide physical therapy, including massage, muscle stimulation (which feels very good!), and a home exercise program.

Whether you see a physical therapist or a chiropractor is up to you, but I can recommend them in that order.

Herniated Disc Back Treatment

herniated disc back treatment
wifehaveslip disc % MRI L4-5 Disc Degeneration Herniated L4-5 &right sided neural compromiseSuggesttreatment?

My wife have slip disc problem. She had pain in back Shje was on bed rest wef 11th March. Now she is improving . But now when she walk, she is tillted to the right side and has little pain.
The details of MRI Report which was done on 25th March are:-
Mild cervical-Lumbar Spodylosis with L3-4,L4-5 Dis gegeneration. Significant right paracentral protrusion-Extrsion with downward migration of herniated L4-5 Disc causing significant Right Sided Neural Compromise with Thecal Sac Cauda Equina compromise.
Additiuonal MILD PIVD-C4-5,C5-6,L3-4 discs

Please suggest the further treatment

I had similar, started five years ago, same discs, L5 S1 prolapsed laterally, trapping and bruising sciatic nerve to such a degree that I had to stop work, could not sit for longer than 5 mins, could not walk anywhere without significant pain, leg would give way through weakness and numbness, finally had two MRI’s, got me in for surgery, disc decompression + discechtomy on Dec 20th. I posted a question about this procedure, it was agony, and I was in hospital for two weeks over Xmas. It did not improve, in fact pain was worse than pre-op, so had me back in March 17th for 4th nerve root block. That kicked in after about 3 weeks. I would NOT recommend any surgery whatsoever on the spine or spinal cord, until you have tried every, I mean, ever other avenue, including chiropractice, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and a whole bunch of specially programmed exercises. Keep mobile. I am about half way back to where I was before surgery, and they tell me it will be a year before I really benefit (!). I am very sceptical. I did not receive one single answer to my question regarding decompression, therefore I assume either readers don’t know what it is, or they haven’t had it done. Ive had some silly answers and some very good advice but NOT FOR post op disc decompression, sadly. You don’t say how old your wife is? I was 59 when mine started to exacerbate after a 23 hour flight to Sydney from UK to see my daughter. I knew something was terribly wrong, and had three months of agony over there. What treatment has been suggested to your wife? I cannot see how it will improve unless something is done quickly for her, such as physiotherapy and/or exercises. The pain from sciatica is notoriously difficult to keep under control. Not even morphine pathes helped in the end. It’s a condition she will have to nurse along very carefully, always pacing herself. Perhaps it will improve and heal itself, but only if she is very careful. I wish her very quick healing indeed. Funny how I haven’t had one single answer to my question, maybe it isn’t so common in the US?
