Herniated Disc From Car Accident

herniated disc from car accident
Can you have an epidural with herniated disks in your spine?

I have a few herniated disks in my spine from a car accident and i dont know if i can have an epidural or anything on the day i give birth. I was wondering if anyone else has or has not because of it and if you have please let me know your input??

You can have the epidural on the day of birth. In fact epidural steroids are frequently used to treat herniated discs in hopes of avoiding surgery so you should have no problem. For treatment of labor pain the MD uses anesthetic agents instead.Good luck!

Can Herniated Disc Heal Itself

can herniated disc heal itself
What should I do about a shattered disc in my back?

I recently started developing lower back problems. I have sever pain in my lumbar and pain shoots down the back of my left leg to the foot. I had an MRI done and my doctor told me I have herniated and bulging discs. He also said that one of the discs is shattered.

I was wondering if anybody knew anything about things like this. What should I do? Should I try to exercise or should I try to rest as much as possible? Can I go to work in this condition or am I risking making things much worse? Also, will a shattered disc heal itself or is surgery needed?

Any help, tips and or pointers are much appreciated. I promise to give a “Best Answer”

I have a similar problem and it does interfere with normal activities. Don’t rest as much as possible. It will make it worst. Do as much as you can with out hurting yourself. There are home exercises that can help strengthen your back muscles. You should also consider medication to help with the pain. Surgery was an option for me but there is no way I will ever do that. There is no guarantee it will work and it will put you down for 6-12 months. It could even make it worst. Depending on your job you should be able to work as long as lifting or any thing that stresses your back is not part of it. The disk will not heal itself. You are stuck with it. It could get worst. You will need to adapt yourself to your new normal. I have three that are involved. Two of the disks are basically gone and the third is close to it. I hope this helps somewhat. Take care.

Herniated Disc Middle Back

i have went to the chiropractor and it didnt help i cant even sit in a computer chair for 2 mins with out it hurting me so bad

Yes, it could be herniated disks….5 years is a long time.
I have herniated and bulging disks when a large heavy medal door
was closing and my high heel got stuck in the silver wedges
on the bottom of the door…and it actually closed so hard on
me that if loosed my high heel and wham, I hit the floor.
The pain was unspeakable…like what you are going through.
I have been getting epidural shots ever since to control the pain.
You need to go to an Orthopedic Doctor….he will have a MRI done on your back and other tests, and give you some pain
medication, until he determines exactly what it is.
You can go on line…type http://Medical.JustAnswers.com
and put what you are going through…..they could give you some answers also.
I stress again, Orthopedic, or Orthopedic Surgeons to be seen..
If you do not have the money, go to a different hospital, that has Orthopedic services. The state and government give
the hospital money for people that do not have it.
They call it Charity Care……they will be paid. No one can
be turned away, if you cannot pay. Just tell them, you cannot pay and please put you on Charity Care.
Wish I could help you more….I know, my legs were shaking also.
When you go to bed, put a pillow between your knees, that will help a bit.
Good luck. Sorry your parents have not helped you.

The most common treatments for back pain include: (1) ingestion of NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), and (2) surgical procedures. Many individuals are becoming wary of consuming NSAIDs due to their adverse side effects, such as causing stomach ulcers and/or accelerating cardiovascular diseases. Surgery has many of its own risks. The cost for surgery can be significant, and the recove…

Exercises Herniated Disc L5 S1

Hi ,,,i am 23 yrs old,,and have a herniated disc at l4/l5 and l5/s1 since last 2 yrs?

Hi ,,,i am 23 yrs old,,and have a herniated disc at l4/l5 and l5/s1 since last 2 yrs.?
pain was alright but i got a weird feeling that my right leg is longer than the other which makes my body structure bit tilted,,,is it becoz of my herniated disc…any suggestions for any exercise or something…

I’ve herniated L5/S1. The pain in your leg is the result of sciatica. The ruptured disc presses against a nerve that controls some of the feeling in your leg. I have found that core strengthening exercises and stretching greatly helped my sciatica. Abdominal crunches and hamstring stretches helped alot. It’s important to be consistent though. Building these core muscles help to stabilize your back and torso which prevents the discs from further rupturing.

Herniated Disc Numbness In Foot

Herniated disc and Sciatic pain help?

i am very active and still in my teen years. I hearniated my disc (L4 L5) and have sciatic pain in my left leg and numbness in my foot and knee. The worst part of all is that i am unable to stand up straight and when i am standing i cant lift my head. the tear is 6mm by 16mm. About 3 months ago after a hockey game i noticed what felt like a pulled muscle, so i just ignored it but over the next month, it got worse and worse. For 4 weeks now i have been going to physio therapy where we have been useing laser treatment, electrio therapy, and traction and so far it is the same pain wise but i am able to stand up slightly straight but i still cant raise my head and i still have the numbness . my docter mentioned surgery and i am a little sceptical about that because i am only 18 years old. i would like to know how long people are out for with this injury? What about chiropractor? Have they helped anyone?

if the disc is herniated, there is nothing much you can do to cue it
you need the surgery

the herniated disc compressed on the spinal nerves, which are causing the pain

those discs won’t grow back to their normal places, unlikely

you can try to see another doctor for a second opinion

Back Pain Young Women

Women.Help with boobs please?

I’m 15 and my bra size is 32E. I’m a U.S size 4, Europe 8.
I’d like to ask any women who had boobs this size at a young age if you had any back pain or problems because of your boobs or have any now? They’re natural by the way. Thank you:):)xxx

I wear a 30FF, also natural by the way and I don’t have significant problems. Here are a few tips I can recommend if you are having back problems:

1. Push-ups or other shoulder exercises and back exercises: These will not only give the girls a lift but will help you carry them better.

2. A good fitting bra that is supportive: Make sure you have the right band size. The band of a bra should not ride up. If it does, go down a band size and up a cup size. Most of the support of a bra comes from the band, not the straps.

3. Practice good posture. The more you practice it, the easier it’ll become to keep it, even when you aren’t consciously thinking.

I’ve heard people that have Ds complain about their breasts being too heavy and causing problems but I since I do all of the above, I don’t have major problems. Occasional backaches do happen but since I’ve implemented all of these, I feel a lot better.

Hope this helps.

Herniated Disc Heat Or Ice

herniated disc heat or ice
Lower Back pain started day after lifting, bike ride, IF it is a herniated disc, wouldnt it be felt instantly?

Thursday: bought and lifted bike into truck,
no pain felt, went on bike ride same day all okay then , next morning pain was felt in lower back. Been ice/heat with not much success after a week. Hurts worse when i sit, and is better walking. Have slight tingling off and on in inner side of knee just above calf, but no “Shooting pains” down leg or butt. Does this sound like disc or muscle and is a week still to early to be worried?

sounds like you may have strained your back. try resting the next week or so with no heavy lifting. try heat instead of ice and take a pain reliever pill for the pain. if for some reason it still bothers you after a week or so, you need to see your doctor. for he might send you to an Orthopedic spine doctor to get an MRI done. good luck though.

Herniated Disc Pain Management

herniated disc pain management
Is percocet a drug that is prescribed by pain management doctors?

I have a herniated disc in my back. It has caused me lots of pain for the last three years. I had a tooth removed last week and the doctor gave me percocet. This killed all my back pain. I am going to begin pain management soon. Is percocet a drug that is prescribed by pain management doctors?

Please, please, please think twice about using this for your back pain. It can so often lead to dependence and disability. If you are seeing a good pain management doctor, they will want you to try non-narcotics to help your back pain. I am really sorry you are having this pain, but please don’t make it worse by becoming dependent on a narcotic pain medication.

Herniated Disc Foot Numbness

herniated disc foot numbness
Back Surgery and Leg Pain/Numbness?

I had to have back surgery five weeks ago (L4/L5) due to a herniated disk which was causing both of my legs to feel like they were asleep. I couldn’t walk without the support from the walls or another person. When I awoke from surgery, still had the numbness/tingling in both my legs. Well I’m getting more feeling back in my legs but now I am noticing some leg pain in my left leg which was not there before the surgery.

Also, I am having trouble in my left leg with flexing the muscle in my calf and not being able to raise up on my toes (again, in the left foot).

What I am wondering is if anyone else has had a similar experience and also if the use of those muscles has come back.

I am going to see my surgeon next week and of course will be telling him all this, but I am just looking for something to tide me over until next week. Thanks!

You may need to get in sooner. There could be a problem with the nerves in that area or there is a possibility of a blood clot starting to form in the leg. I dont mean to scare you but this is something serious that needs attention sooner than next week.
