Herniated Disc Walking

herniated disc walking
has anyone ever had a herniated disc in their neck which caused pain durring or after walking?

The chiropractor doctor seems to think walking should not hurt. I also have a reverse curve to my neck and lack of mobility in 3 other discs. Pain raidiates to the lower back and shoulders unless I just sit and rest all day. Any work causes onset of the pain. I am doing traction and using neck pillows, glucosomine, and having adjustments. Will this ever heal? It has been 3 months now. I was wondering if having adjustments was safe to do with a herniated disc?

The herniated disc sometimes dont heal. I have three it is very painful. Please be careful if they suggest a CT Mylegram. I had one and they pinch a nerve in my spinal cord and I cant barely walk. I was rushed to ER and no I have DVT a blood clot in my left side becuase of an IV that wasnt flushed.

Please My surgeon doent want to operate after all the hell Ive been through. Surgery is not always the anwer. Ive been like this for 6 years.

Herniated Disc Neck Surgery

herniated disc neck surgery
How long does it take to recover from a herniate disk surgery on the neck?

I had the surgery done about three and a half months ago, and the doctor said the only physical therapy I needed was to walk a lot, to prevent blood clots on the legs. I am still experiencing the pains. I have gone back to the gym, but slowly after waiting at least six weeks following the surgery. Thank you for your time.

If you are talking about anterior cervical disc fusion, then yes, commonly PT is not needed. Although, I have seen a few people for a few weeks of gentle stretching and conditioning.

Most of the healing takes place within the first 3 months…but it’s common to have some aches and pains over the course of a year…however, it should be decreasing in frequency and intensity…especially arm symptoms

Back Pain Middle Right Side

back pain middle right side
Middle right side of back hurts when I breath?

My mom is having this problem. It started yesterday. She doesn’t know what can be causing it, but she is saying it’s hard to breath. She mopped floors at her work using bleach the other day and is thinking this may be causing it. She got a muscle relaxer shot at the ER a few days ago for a bulging disk in her neck. I don’t know if this could be related to it. I am telling her to go back to the ER but she is thinking they will think she is a hypochondriac. Anyway, anyone had a similar pain or experience?

The problem with pain blockers is that you can go back to work and make the problem worse than it already is because you no longer feel the pain. One of the reasons I won’t take one. I want these professionals to fix what is wrong, not cover it up.
To help her neck she should do this:
Take her thumb and place it on the muscles under her neck. Then her fingers on the muscles on the back of her neck and then pull them together with a moderate amount of pressure and hold.
Now relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body.
After about 30 seconds or so, the muscles should start releasing, continue holding until the last of them are leased. then do the other side. If you get those muscles relaxed then she has to see if she still has other problems. If she does contact me with details and I will help.

Herniated Disc Pain Symptoms

herniated disc pain symptoms
L4/L5 herniated disc post op?

Four days post op and most of my symptoms are still with me, pain in
legs when standing, sitting, one numb foot and calf.? The nerve pain when sitting on the loo and cleaning ones teeth is terrible. The only improvement is no pain in inner thighs and groin. Where part of the incision was made I have a small lump which is very painful(like a spot). The rest of the area where the incision was made about two inches is fine and healing well. I’m going to the doctors tomorrow just in case it’s a infection.
Am I expecting to much so soon for all the nerve pain to disappear or will this go in time.?
I went for a walk today which was very difficult, painful and had a shooting pain from the ankle up to the calf, motor functions not normal. Surgeon said he had to take away a large portion of my disc. Bladder, bowls normal and male function operational (thank you!!)

I am sure that the surgeon told you this but just in case he or she didn’t. The reaction to the disc pressing on the nerves was swelling and if there long enough scar tissue. There are two sides to a nerve. The top portion or the side that is closest to the back is for sensation and the bottom half is for motor. In your case the pressure was on both indicative of a larger disc problem. If the problem was there for a long time it is equally going to take time to repair if the nerve can recover. The rule of thumb is that it takes about on inch per month for recovery. That means that it is one inch from the site of the operation down to the tip of your big toe. Now in reality it will not take that long for all function to return but it is going to be quite a while. As for what is happening now you have the swelling from before the procedure plus any and all swelling from the procedure. Give it time but within a few days there should be a reduction in your complaints. That doesn’t mean recovery just a start of a lessening of symptoms. You didn’t state what kind of procedure was done and if there was any fixation devices implanted. Different procedures make a difference in the way the body reacts and if any fixation devices were used then it is going to take longer. So the big thing is that you have control over bowel and bladder and your male functions. The motor functions are going to take time to return. Sensation is going to be interesting for you. The body has overlapping sensory inputs so you should be able to feel things sooner than the motor responses. Follow the surgeons instructions and keep moving.

Herniated Disc Surgery Video

Does anyone know if YOGA is good for the lower back?

I can’t do Pilates exercises since they hurt my back. Those are much too strenuous. I don’t have any problem with doing aerobics. I was wondering if Yoga would help? I have had back surgery due to a herniated disk and I was considering buying a beginner yoga video but don’t know if I should bother. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Yoga has been a god-send for my lower back. Definitely give it a try. But I would strongly suggest starting with classes so that your instructor can help you get properly aligned in positions. Also, the instructor will be able to suggest modifications of poses that might put too much strain on your back at this point. But over time, yoga will definitely strengthen your back. Have fun!

Minimally Invasive Herniated Disc Repair

what is the most advanced treatment procedure for 7 herniated discs t1 c1 thru c7.. L5, s1..laser?

im desperately searching for the best spine procedures to repair herniated discs. i have disc problems, mulit level cervical c1-c7 t1, L5 S1 and other areas are herniated, spurred, protruding compressing the thecal sac causing great pain. ive had people tell me on this site that they havent heard of anyone with herniations in multiple areas of the spine, i dont know why they would say that….my mri says degenerative disc disease including herniations at T1, L5 S1, C1,2,3,4,5,6,7 all compressing the spinal cord. does anyone have advice on spine procedures or innovative spine clinics that repair discs through minimally invasive procedures? i will travel anywhere in the US and anywhere in the world, any input is appreciated

It looks to me like the latest treatment may be from Dr. Bookspan. Her sports medicine clinic is in Philadelphia, PA. She is a research scientist and has studied and found ways to help you. You may not believe it, but she teaches you how to use your spine in a neutral spine position that will allow the discs to heal. she also points out that degenerative disc disease is not a disease, but that degeneration comes from the pressure on the discs and that they can heal.

Please read her bio before you dismiss this. You may get some help just from the disc article on her web page. In my case hyperlidosis, I am getting better from the free info and books. Your case sounds like it is worth a visit. If you would like more links from her Fitness Fixer blog send me an email.

Herniated Disc Cervical Spine Surgery

herniated disc cervical spine surgery
Nerve test for cervical herniated discs…?

So my MRI report cam back a few weeks ago. I have 2 cervical herniated discs, bone spurs, and degeneration in my discs. In addition to…strained neck, rhomboid (shoulder blade area) and lumbar muscles (lower back).

I have been going to physical therapy and I was told yesterday that if I am not feeling better by January, he wants to do a Electromyography . He mentioned needles being put along my arm and this just freaks me out! Has anybody had this done? What was it like??

Next step after that would be a cortisone shot in my spine (not sure about this, since it doesn’t fix the problem, it only numbs the pain temporarily), followed by surgery.

It’s generally not a comfortable test…but generally not excruciating either.

I wouldn’t necessarily write off the cortisone injections as a temporary fix…sometimes the injections combined with the physical therapy allows one to complete the corrective exercises that are sometimes not possible with PT alone. I’ve had many patients fail to respond to PT, but responded much better after the injections.

Good luck.

Herniated Disc Weakness

herniated disc weakness
If you complain about Weakness in the right leg and foot causes by Herniated Disc, will the Neurologist?

Perform the EMG test on 1 leg or Both?
I will be going for the EMG test in June

The only true way to ensure the reading of the test is accurate is by doing both legs. This will tell if there is any pressure or impedance on the nerve within either leg. Have you had MRI scans done? If not ask for that and see if it can be done in a standing position.
